The institution turning 150-years old this year, is hosting its 10 Intercollegiate ADR Competition in association with IQAC and Justice V R Krishna Iyer ADR Chair.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTION:

Established in 1875, Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram has been at the forefront of legal education in India, nurturing generations of legal luminaries who have significantly contributed to the justice system and societal progress. Affiliated to the Faculty of Law of the University of Kerala, the college is supervised and controlled by the Government of Kerala.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are extremely excited to announce the 10th Edition of the National ADR Competition (Hybrid), organised by the Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Justice V R Krishna Iyer Chair on ADR Systems. The event is  taking place on the 14th, 15th, and 20th of November 2024, in a dynamic hybrid format, with the Preliminary Round being held online. Semi-Finals, and Final Rounds will be conducted on campus in offline format. This event highlights the significance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms and the power of dialogue and cooperation in building a society grounded in fairness, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.

PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY:

The competition will be open to all Law Colleges and Law Departments students recognized by the Bar Council of India. The participation is limited to undergraduate students in law both in the 3-year and 5-year schemes undergoing regular courses. A college/department can send a team comprising three students, who have to deal with the role of the Claimant, the Respondent, and the Rapporteur.

REGISTRATION:

Registration fee : Rs 1500 (inclusive of one day accommodation and food for the selected teams).

The teams shall be selected on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis

PRELIMS:

Upon Registration the selected team shall receive a confirmation mail with team code assigned on or before 25th October 2024. The Team shall not reveal their identity anywhere in the script or at the time of presentation. Throughout the competition, the Team will be identified by their respective codes. The registered teams shall report for verification at 7.30 p.m. on 13th November 2024 through Google Meet. The preliminary rounds will be held online on 14th and 15th November 2024.

For this round the team will have to do a role play based on the problem given, Two of the team member acting as the parties and the third member as a rapporteur (mediator/conciliator/arbitrator based on the problem given). Duration shall be 30 minutes.

SEMI FINALS AND FINALS:

Teams based on their aggregate score in the prelims will be selected to this round. Semi-final and final rounds of the competition shall beheld offline at the campus on 20th November. The selected teams shall report to the venue at 8.00 a.m. on 20th November 2024.

The teams selected for the semifinals must send their travel plans by 16th November 2024. Their travelling expenses shall be borne by the respective institutions.

Food and Accommodation shall be provided to the selected participants from 19th November 2024 6:00 pm to 20th November 6:00 pm for 24 hours. Further details will be intimated accordingly.

In this round scripts will be exchanged along with the rapporteur i.e., the rapporteur of your team will be exchanged with the rapporteur of the opposite team and vice versa. Teams on the basis of their performance in the semi final round will be selected ( aggregate marks of the claimant, respondent and rapporteur) to this round.

Format of the final round will be the same as the semi finals. There shall be an interface of teams from the semifinals onwards. One of the participants of the team as suggested by them shall act as the rapporteur during the presentation of the other team. There will be an exchange of scripts of respective teams. Duration shall be 45 minutes.

MEMORANDUM:

The script memorandum shall consist of a general explanation of ADR and the rationale for the method /technique selected by the team along with adequate references in 20 pages (A4 size paper). Written scripts for either side shall consist of a general introduction, briefing on ADR, explanation of the given method, facts in issue, depositions, and the claims/demand/prayer along with exhibits or evidence, extracts, etc. at a maximum of 20 pages. 20 marks will be awarded for it. Teams shall present Problem 1 for Prelims, Problem 2 for semi and 3 for Finals respectively. However each team should prepare and submit scripts for all the three given problems at once . Only teams qualified to the next levels are required to do the role play of the respective problems.

Further, hard copies in triplicate shall reach the institution on or before 12th November 2024.
