Alappuzha district legal awareness programme in prisons

District Probation Office, Alappuzha in association with Ljrf centre for probation reforms and Correctional Home department, Alappuzha , conducted a legal awareness programme for imparting knowledge regarding Probation of offenders act, Best services and schemes of social justice department and relating rules and procedures to assist or consult respective authorities in order to avail these benefits for prisoners, from March 14 to 16. The program was inaugurated by Smt. Jalajarani M.T , Secretary and Sub Judge, District Legal Services Authority, Alappuzha. The program was presided by Mr. Shajahan. S , District Probation Officer grade 1 Alappuzha  and welcome address was delivered by Superintendent of District jail. R. Sreekumar. Felicitation for the inaugural program was delivered by   Ms. Renitta Manuel , convenor Ljrf Centre for Probation Reforms and vote of thanks was pronounced by Sri. Santhosh, Additional District Probation Officer,  Alappuzha. Renitta Manuel, Sreelakshmi.S, Arya. V Nair and Aksha Raj, Litty Mon M.S, Annie Rachael Joseph lead the lecture sessions on topics :-

(1)Probation, Nervazhi & Jeevanam projects.

(2) Probation of offenders act & other services and schemes of social justice department for convicts, ex-convicts and probationers, victims and their families.

(3) Prison rules and rights of prisoners.

(4) Plea bargaining & parole, premature release and home leave etc.

(5) Personality defects, personality development techniques and motivation stories ( related to jail)

(6) Addiction assessment, modern trends in addiction,  stages and impact of addiction.

Sessions focused to make them aware about the rights of inmates as human beings and not as criminals. Besides, conveyed how they can achieve the benefits of this act of probation and can again revive with their family and society. Programme comprise some practical sessions which gave peace and teaches how to control the present situation and to get out of the dilemma of a name board as ‘Criminal’. They actively participated and cooperated with each of us four persons who lead the sessions and gave a happy ending feedback. Giving them proper aid, a hand of love, care and assistance and to fulfill basic fundamental human rights can reform them and can create lot transformations in societal perspective too  in the field of Probation Reforms.
