Add on course on Criminology and Forensic science – commencing from 7th June

About the course

This add on course on Criminology and Forensic science is organised by LJRF Academy (an online platform promoted by Law & Justice Research Foundation).The 6 month long course mainly focuses on providing the learners with expertise in analysing and interpreting various social justice issues arising in the society and the reaction of society towards such issues.The course will be an examination of sources of crime, society’s reaction to crime, and the functioning of criminal justice system. The course focuses on the analysis of the basic sources of crime and how well the objectives of the system are being achieved through current processes and policies in the criminal justice system. This course provides an introduction to the field of criminology, various theoretical explanations for criminal behavior, and the mechanisms for the control of criminal behavior. The course also provides an overview on the police system, the process of criminal investigations and the scientific and technical methods used to analyze evidence. It traces how the concept of punishment has evolved over time from ancient forms of punishment to present day policies. The course also examines the role of victims in crimes, and their treatment by the criminal justice system.

About the session

This online course is scheduled to be commenced from 7th of June 2023 at 5pm.The welcome address for the session shall be given by Neelima V Nair, Joint secretary of LJRF State Chapter. Dr.Saroja A.S, former principal of Govt. Law Colleges (Thiruvananthapuram & Ernakulam) will be delivering the presidential address on the day. Learners are very much privileged to have Sri. K Kamanees, Judge of NIA Court at Ernakulam for an insightful speech on the topic ‘Sentencing policy – an overview’. This will be followed by the felicitation speech by Adv. Johnson Gomez, advocate at the High Court of Kerala who is also the Chairman of Project Complete Lawyer.

The session will be continued by introducing the eminent resource persons of this course, the renowned Criminologist Dr. Swetha Thomas, who is an Assistant Professor at Department of Criminology and Police Science from St. Thomas College, Thrissur ; and Adv. Fathima Sherifa, Assistant Planning Coordinator in the legal affairs group of Kuwait Oil Company.The session will be concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by G.S Gokul, Convenor of LJRF Centre for Constitution Literacy.
