ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

The Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram established in 1875 with a glorious legacy of over 145 years is one of the oldest institutions imparting legal education in India. Affiliated to the Faculty of Law of University of Kerala, the college is supervised and controlled by the Government of Kerala and was ranked as the 23rd best law college in India in 2007 by INDIA TODAY. With a well experienced and eminent team of faculty, the college produces top scorers of the University every year. The College has a well maintained Library which is the best and biggest one in the state and also one of the oldest one in the country.

ABOUT THE MOOT COURT SOCIETY

The Moot Court Society has been in place for decades producing some of the country’s finest lawyers through organising multiple competitions widely at a national level. The college is acclaimed far and wide for its All India Moot Court Competition for Justice Krishna Iyer Ever Rolling Trophy with a count of 16 exhilarating editions and 9 stellar editions of Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) Competition and Trial Advocacy Competition.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Moot court competition is one of the most exciting activities for law students where students are equipped to sharpen their skills for their future practice as lawyers. The purpose of the activity is to help law students understand how real courts function, their code of conduct and the use of formal language. Mooting is a one of the finest ways to develop one’s confidence and research, speaking and drafting skills. GLC, Thiruvananthapuram is hosting its 17th edition of All India Moot Court Competition from 2nd to 4th of February, 2023 in the college campus.

The programme scheduled for 2nd of February will be opened up with a welcome address by Assistant Professor, Smt. Saleena.The presidential address will be delivered by the Principal, Dr. R. Bijukumar. Hon’ble Justice Cyriac Joseph, Kerala Lokayukta and the former judge of Supreme Court with his esteemed presence will be delivering the inaugural address for the event. Prof. N K Jayakumar, Former Vice Chancellor, NUALS would be giving the keynote address for this event and shall be followed up by the special address by the Dean of Faculty of law, University of Kerala, Prof. (Dr.) Bismi Gopalakrishnan. G. Sasidharan, Executive member of PTA and Aswin Asok J, the Chairman of the College Union(2021-22)as well as the organising committee member have been designated to give the felicitation for the programme. Assistant Professor, Dr. Meenakumary S (Treasurer, Moot court society) would be delivering the vote of thanks for the day.

After the inauguration, a briefing session will be conducted for the participants by the Student Coordinators Vivek V Rajan and Kalyani B Nair and lots are to be drawn on the same day. Preliminary rounds will be held on 3rd February, Friday at 8:30 AM and quarter finals are scheduled at 4:30 PM marking the conclusion for the second day.

The Semi Finals round would be starting on 4th of February at 8:30 AM, followed by Finals at 2 PM.The valedictory function is planned to be started at 4:30 PM soon after the finals. Assistant Professor, Dr. Viji S (General Coordinator) will be delivering the welcome address for the function carried on by the presidential address by the Principal, Dr. R Bijukumar. The event will be graced with the esteemed presence of Hon’ble judges of High court of Kerala.Justice K Babu will be delivering the valedictory address followed by the keynote address by Hon’ble Justice A Badhurudeen,High court of Kerala. Hon’ble Justice Viju Abraham will be delivering the special address for the programme.Prize distribution is scheduled immediately after the speech by the judges with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor, Dr. Anju Rajan V (General Convenor) thus marking the closing of the magnificent event.
