An NSS Camp that opened doors for change; Government Law College,Thiruvananthapuram

The NSS units of Government Law College,Thiruvananthapuram observed its seven day residential camp at Saigramam, Attingal. The commencement of the camp was marked by an opening ceremony. Various eminent personalities blessed the diac with their presence and reflected on their experiences. The major motive of the camp was to conduct surveys, particularly in ward 7 and ward 16 of the muddakkal gram panchayat regarding pendancy of civil and criminal cases. This unlatched the doors to an easy litigation.

The campers were guided by the Program Officer, Mr.Safi Mohan along with the volunteer secretaries Sreelakshmy Suresh and Priya George accompanied by the camp secretary Bharath and the senior volunteers. The day embarked with yoga and other exercises to cleanse the body and mind. Later,the campers were sent for surveys to the above mentioned wards. On return, academic sessions were organized to enhance their knowledge on multiple spectrums. Prof.Dr.Mohan Gopal; the former director of National Judicial Academy ,Adv.Sabitha team member of State women Helpline, Sangeeth Sebastin ; Gender Sexuality expert held sessions on Constiution,Law and society, Domestic Violence and Sex education respectively. The organizing Committe also arranged workshops on street play and a special workshop by Brammanayakan Sir which higlighted the role of an NSS volunteer. The cultural night conducted through the entireity of the camp accelerated volunteer interaction and kept them on their toes.

The valedictory function of the seven-day residential camp of the NSS units of Govt Law College,Thiruvananthapuram was held at Saigramam, Attingal. In the event held at 10 am on 17/3/2024, the Project Launch of Thiruvananthapuram District Legal Services Authority was kick started. NSS Program Officer Shri. Safi Mohan presided over the session and DLSA Secretary Shri. Shamnad delivered the keynote address.


The purpose of the project is to engage students as Para Legal Volunteers in legal aid clinic for effective dispute resolution in the society. Through this project the students will be benefited with work experience and the DLSA could offer quick legal assistance to the public, and low cost administration is also possible. As the first step towards initiating the project, 10 NSS volunteers from Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram were selected.
