Chanakya Law University, Patna presents ‘Catalyst’: Startup Law Policy and Summit 2024

Centre for Innovation, Incubation, and Legal Entrepreneurship (CIILE) of Chanakya Law University, Patna in collaboration with Nishith Desai Associates and LL.B Mania will be hosting ‘Catalyst’: Startup Law Policy and Summit on 24th August 2024.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTION:

Chanakya National Law University was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006) on July 15, 2006, with the altruistic goal of serving society by disseminating high quality legal education and legal awareness. CNLU provides quality multidisciplinary education in legal studies, keeping in view the demands of the global economy on the one hand and the needs of the domestic society on the other hand. It organizes advanced studies and promotes research in all branches of law to promote cultural, legal and ethical values with a view to promote and foster the rule of law and the objectives enshrined in the Constitution of India.

ABOUT THE SUMMIT:

Startup Law and Investment Law in India have become an increasingly relevant and dynamic field, with recent developments and reforms aimed at promoting fair competition and protecting the interests of startups. In recent years, several contemporary issues have arisen in the Indian investment law landscape, such as the intersection between startups and technology, data protection and intellectual property, and the role of startups in the digital economy. These issues are critical to the development of a robust competition regime in India and require continuous examination and discussion. “CIILE’s Summit on “Startup Laws” provides a platform to engage in such discussions and to gain a deeper understanding of the policy and current state of challenges related to startups in India and its future direction. It is a unique opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, share insights, and build new relationships with peers and experts from around the world. With a focus on cutting-edge research and practical applications, the summit will provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in investment, AI, Insurance, and emerging technology in the domain of startups today, and equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in this rapidly evolving field.

STRUCTURE OF THE SUMMIT:

The Summit will entail a Panel Discussion and a round of Paper Presentation. Panel Discussion will include academicians, legal professionals, and experts from business communities coming together to discuss issues on the Use of Emerging Technologies and Al for Start-ups and Seed Funding, and Investment strategies for Startups and their legalities. The subsequent round will be a platform for authors to share their research and findings with startup and tech law experts and peers. The summit invites authors to submit original, unpublished manuscripts, along with an abstract, for presentation at the technical session under the themes of the summit to contribute to the discourse around the contemporary issues in Startup Laws & Policy Making. After reviewing all the manuscripts, the top 4 shortlisted authors/teams shall be invited to present their manuscripts before the experts on the day of the summit at CNLU Campus.

2. Technology Law and Involvement of Al in Fostering Startups

3. Private Equity & Venture Capital Challenges in Startup Culture

4. Competition Law issues in Startups

5. Insurance and its Importance for Startups

6. Data Privacy & Cybersecurity concerns of Startups culture

7. Emerging Disputes and Their Resolution for Startups

(The themes are merely suggestive and not exhaustive. The participants are free to opt- in for sub-themes under these themes to narrow down their topics)

The word Limit for Abstract is 150-250 Words with 5 keywords.

Cross Institution Teams are also Allowed. The Registration Fees for the Event are non-refundable.

ELIGIBILITY:

The competition is open to any student pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate course in any recognized university in India. Participants are requested to produce a university-issued ID Card or Bonafide certificate issued by their respective universities stating that they are students of the same.

LANGUAGE:

 All Written Submissions and further presentation (if selected) shall be made in English, which shall be the official language of the Competition.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Submissions are expected to be original work of the author(s) and meet high academic standards.

The following guidelines ought to be followed:

  1. The full paper has to be submitted in soft copy in MS Word(.doc/.docx).
  2. The title must succinctly encapsulate the topic and explain the body of work.
  3. There must be an abstract (150-250 words) that briefly describes the idea behind the submission, its structure, and the author’s conclusion(s). It must include the novelty and usefulness of the idea that the author wishes to put forth and must categorically mention the specific contribution of the article beyond the existing available literature.
  4. The word limit for the written submissions is 2500-3000 words.
  5. The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, Font Size 12, and 1.5-line spacing, automatic spacing between paragraphs, and aligned JUSTIFIED. One-inch margins should be maintained on all four sides.
  6. Only original, unpublished work is sought. A submission will not be accepted if it exceeds the 10% plagiarism limit.
  7. The CNLU-CATALYST 2024 has a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism. Please note that any submission with more than the 10% limit of plagiarized content will be outrightly rejected. Any blog submitted to present identical or substantially similar work already published or under review for any other publication will not be considered.
  8. The use of AI is strictly prohibited for the Competition.
  9. The title must be Times New Roman. Font Size 14, in CAPITALS, Bold, aligned CENTRE.
  10. The footnotes should be in Times New Roman font size 10, single line spacing, and aligned JUSTIFIED.
  11. The citations must conform to the style of HARVARD BLUEBOOK [20TH EDITION]. Manuscripts should only use footnotes as a means of citation. No other method shall be permitted.
  12. The blog, once submitted to us for this competition, should not be submitted to any other competition and/or for any other purpose. However, the participants are free to pursue publication on other platforms if they are not placed on the merit list.
  13. The manuscript should not contain any references to the identity of the authors. However, authors are allowed to cite their previous published work.
  14. Co-authorship is permissible only up to a maximum of two authors. In case of co-authorship, substitution of author or alteration of composition is not allowed after the date of Final Registration except in extenuating circumstances and only with the permission of the Organizing Committee.
  15. The winners of the competition authorized the organizers to use their names and photos if required, to publish the competition and its results.
