Lexazadi-Pan India awareness and outreach programme

The inauguration of LEXAZADI and National Webinar on ‘LEGAL SERVICES AND ROLE OF DLSA conducted by the Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram in association with DLSA Thiruvananthapuram was commenced on yesterday 01, November,2021 during evening 05pm. As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, celebrated by the Union and the State Governments to commemorate the 75 years of India’s Independence, from 8th to 14th of November, 2021 is designated as the ‘Legal Services Week’. A “PAN India Legal Awareness and Outreach Campaign is being organized by National Legal Services Authority as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from October 02, 2021 to November 14, 2021.

This programme aims to involve law students in imparting legal awareness. Involving Law students in imparting legal awareness serves to induct a moral duty upon them to help the poor and vulnerable sections of the society and also to sensitize them of the issues affecting the public at large.

This programme also aims to provide legal education and services to the unprivileged, who by their social circumstances have limited access to Legal aid. The main objective of this programme is to act as a catalyst to ignite the youth in serving the needy and deserving people, thereby causing a social change.

The programme will also focus at spreading awareness among School Students and Students of various Colleges under the District Legal Service Authority through webinars, panel discussions and interactive sessions. Our Goal is to sow the seeds of constitutional spirit in the minds of the young citizens and to enlight them with basic knowledge about the Constitution.This mission with a vision was started with a warm welcome speech from Dr. Anju Rajan V (Assistant Professor, Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram). Later carried on with presidential address by Dr. R Biju Kumar (Principal, Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram), inuagural address by Shri. K T Nisar Ahammed (District Judge and Member-Secretary, KELSA), the key note speaker was Shri. Vidyadharan. K (Secretary, DLSA ,Thiruvananthapuram) and the theme of the day was “LEGAL SERVICES AND THE ROLE OF DLSA”. The programme was concluded by a vote of thanks speech by Manu K Sabu (Final year Student, Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram).

November 2nd, Tuesday

The programme is based on the theme Hidden Patriarchy, the roots of domestic violence that is from 4pm -6pm. Dr. HAMEEMA. M (Assistant Professor Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram) is the to give today’s address speech, thereafter Dr. R Biju Kumar (Principal, Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram) will do the presidential address. Dr. Sonia K Das (Associate Professor in Law, Government Law College Thrissur) is the moderator and the panel members are Dr. V. Vijaya Kumar (Retired District Judge, Kalpetta Wayanad) T.K. Anandhi (Gender Advisor, Govt.  of Kerala) Shri Mohandas V U (Founder, Better Life Foundation, NGO) T P Rinshad (Final year student of Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) Ms. Anunanda C (Final year student of Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will be giving today’s vote of thanks.

Later on webinar will be conducting from 6:30 pm -7:30pm webinar will be conducting on the theme Emerging Trends in Arbitration.Welcome speech is by Smt. Saleena U (Assistant Professor, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) Shri. INBAVIJAYAN VEERARAGHAVAN (International Arbitrator and Managing Partner, KoVe Global LLP) is the key note speaker and Nandana Sreekumar (2nd Year Student, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will give the vote of thanks.

November 3rd, Wednesday

  1. The panel discussion will be from 4pm-6pm on the theme: Mental health care act, 2017 and it’s challenges for implication. Shri. Vidyadharan  K will give that day’s welcome speech. Dr. R BIJU KUMAR will be giving the presidential address. Dr. VANI KESARI A will be the moderator and the panel members are Smt. JUBIYA  A (Priciple Sub Judge, Ernakulam), Dr. ANILKUMAR T V (Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, Govt. Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram), Dr.Jayaprakashan K P (Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram)
  2. and vote of thanks by Jibin Chacko (Final Year Student, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram). Webinar will be conducting at 6:30pm till 7:30pm
  3. on the theme of “Mediation : Current Jurisprudence And The Path Ahead” where welcome note will be by Smt. Priya Vijayan (Assistant Professor, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) Key note speaker will be Dr. Marisport  A (Asst. Professor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Gujarat)

November 5th, Friday webinar will from 5pm concluding by 6pm and the theme of that day is exploring the nuances of compelling an accused person  to furnish evidence permitted  by article 20 (3) of the constitution”. Smt. THAJI  G. (Asst. Professor, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will be giving welcome speech, on this day Justice V. Ramkumar (Former Judge, High Court of Kerala) is the keynote speaker. Aysha Rahmath (Second year student, Govt. Law College Thiruvananthapuram) will be giving vote of thanks. Later on in the webinar (6:30-7:30pm) on the theme Civil Procedure Code 1908, an overview.

Dr. MEENAKUMARY (Asst. Professor, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) is be giving the welcome speech.Justice T K Shankaran (Former Judge, High Court of  Kerala) is the keynote speaker.  Ambadi S Girish (Second year student, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will be saying vote of thanks.

November 6th, Saturday webinar time of conducting the programme will be from 5pm to 6pm and the theme is Redefining the boundaries of ADR – An experience sharing class on which Safi Mohan M.R (Asst. Professor, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will be giving welcome speech. Dr. M.R.K Prasad (Professor of Law, V. M. Salgaocar College of Law) will be the keynote speaker. Shree Ramakrishnan (Final year student, Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram) will give the vote of thanks.

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION with the slogan

“Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart” are conducting on five topics which should be addressed in this society and the themes of the competition are:

    I. “Burn the greed for Dowry and not the bride.”

    II. “Lifting the veil of Patriarchy”.

    III. “Husband, the Legal Rapist”

    IV. “Zero tolerance for Rape, the need for Law reforms”.

    V. “Say no to Toxic Relationships”

This are the rules of the competition:

1. It’s an open competition for college students and school students.

2. Make a poster on any one of the above themes.

3. Multiple entries not permitted.

4. Posters can be either on canvas or enhanced through digital medium.

5. Posters should be of A4 size. (If on canvas)

6. Both Pencil/Pen sketches and paintings allowed.

7. Last date for submission: 5th November before 11pm.

8. Participants must register through Google form provided below (otherwise entry not considered)

9. Artworks shouldn’t be previously published in any other media.

10. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. (Such entries shall be disqualified)

The details regarding the prizes for the winners are:

1st Prize – Rs 3000 for one best entry along with Certificate.

2nd Prize – Rs 2000 for one participant along with Certificate.
