LJRF Demands Justice V.R Krishna Iyer Memorial Centre

Law And Justice Research Foundation submitted a request to Hon’ble Minister, Social Justice Department, for acquiring property and house named Sadgamaya  ,in Ernakulam district , of Justice  V. R Krishna Iyer by Govt. Of Kerala  for constructing a ‘ Research Centre on Probation- Reforms and Legal Aid’ in memory of Justice V. R Krishna Iyer. The request was made in reference to the news published in Mathrubhumi daily on 5th December 2021, regarding the sale of the aforesaid property to a commercial institution known as Malabar Gold. The sale of land to a commercial institution would swipe away all the remarkable contributions of Justice Krishna Iyer.

Justice Vaidyanathapuram Rama Krishna Iyer ( 15 Nov 1915- 4 Dec, 2014) was an Indian Judge ,pioneer of judicial activism and legal aid movement in the country. Justice Krishna Iyer has  pronounced judgments in various notable cases like Maneka Gandhi v. Union Of India , Sunil Batra v. Delhi Administration , Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board v. A. Rajappa  , State of Kerala v. N.M Thomas . Justice Iyer  was appointed as  first Law Minister of Kerala and Minister in charge of important port folios and drafted the landmark Kerala Land Reforms Act. Justice played an important role as judge of Supreme Court in Public Interest Litigation for which the Indian Judiciary is hailed throughout the world.

Considering all the above significant roles, it is necessary and inevitable to build an instrument in his own afore said property; that is Hon’ble Justice V.R Krishna Iyer Memorial Research Centre on Probation Reforms and Legal Aid”.
