Niyama gotra: legal training program for tribal students

Thiruvananthapuram District Legal Services Authority in association with District Schedule Tribes Development Department introduced an initiative   ‘Niyama Gotra’ , a training program for tribal students to mark their presence in the legal world. The program was inaugurated by Sri. K Radhakrishnan, Minister for tribal development on 27th March at Dr . Ambedkar CBSE School, Peringamala.

The training program was introduced to increase the participation of tribal students in law ; upon the realization that the number of tribal students stepping into the legal world was very less . Such a training program was first initiated in the Wayanad District and was successful in attaining the objective. Thus Kerala Legal Services Authority  decided to reach out to the tribal population of whole state through DLSA and the Niyama Gotra was inaugurated as a first step in  Thiruvananthapuram.

The program intends to prepare  the tribal students in regards to various entrance examinations such as CLAT, for admission in national law colleges and for entrance to law colleges in the state as well. The program is taken forward  in close association with prestigious law colleges of the district such as Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram,  Law Academy and Mar Gregorios College Of  Law . The students are trained  and guided by the selected faculties of the institutions. As a first phase  eleven students were selected from the tribal community to be trained for the CLAT examination to be held in June 11th of 2022.

The inauguration of Niyama Gotra was presided by Sri. K  Vidyadharan, Secretary and Sub Judge, DLSA, Thiruvananthapuram. The chief guest was Sri. D. K Murali ,M.L.A  and Member DLSA . Smt. Durga Malati, Principal Ambedkar CBSE Public School , Sri. A. Rahim , IDTP Project officer, Dr.Sajikumar ,Assistant Professor Thiruvananthapuram Law College, Sri. Vidyadharan Kani and Sri. K . Kanthaswami enlightened the session with their words.
