The Supreme Court’s New Lady Of Justice Statue Removes The Blindfold And Sword.

A new statue of Lady of Justice was unveiled in the Supreme Court and it comes with new changes. To convey the idea that the law in the nation is not blind nor does it represent punishment, the blindfold has been removed from a new statue of the Lady of Justice in the Supreme Court, and the Constitution has taken the place of the sword in one of its hands.

The blindfold originally represented the concept of equality before law which signified that law remains blind to wealth, power, or other symbols of status that comes before it and the sword represented the authority of law to punish every aspect of injustice.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud ordered the commissioning of a new statue in the Supreme Court’s judges’ library. It features the eyes open and the Constitution in its left hand in place of the sword, which is thought to be an attempt to move past the colonial legacy, similar to how the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita replaced the Indian Penal Code and other colonial-era criminal laws.
