Village janakeeya samiti : a revolutionary step towards good governance

Kerala Revenue Department in order to attain good governance has introduced a village level Janakeeya Samiti. The initiation was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan on 19th of March at Peroorkada smart village office. The function was presided by Revenue Minister K . Rajan. Education Minister V. Shivankutty, Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R Anil, Transport Minister Antony Raju , Shashi Tharoor M.P , V.K Prakash M.L.A , Trivandrum Mayor Arya Rajendran , District Panchayat President D. Suresh Kumar , Deputy Mayor P.K Raju attended the function.

The villages being the basic and grass root entity of the revenue administration , the offices are responsible for multifarious tasks like collection of taxes, issue of various certificates relating to general administration,  activities relating to census, elections and so on. Being the basic unit it is important to ensure democracy and accuracy in the working of village offices; with that aim Kerala Government has introduces the new scheme Janakeeya Samiti.

The initiation is introduced in all 1666 villages of Kerala and it is mandated to arrange a meeting on every 3rd Friday at 3P.M from the month of April onwards. The structure of Janakeeya Samiti includes , Village officer as the Convener, MLA or representative of that concerned area, representatives of 3 tier local self government, representatives from ever recognized political party having majority in the legislative assembly , a women and SC /ST nominated by the government and Deputy Tahasildar. The  Government and department has also planned to conduct an orientation program at ILDM to make citizens aware about the works of revenue department and to ensure their participation.

The Janakeeya Samiti is introduced with the key idea to solve the problems of the citizens democratically and to ensure accuracy and transparency in the works and activities of the revenue department.
