ABOUT PROBATION FORTNIGHT PROGRAMME
“Probation Fortnight Programme” is a flagship programme organised by the Govt. of Kerala in the State from November 15 – December 4 annually. November 15th, the birth anniversary of Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer is marked as the Probation Day in the State of Kerala. It is observed to commemorate the days from the Birth Anniversary to the Death Anniversary of Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer who is well known as the People’s Judge and the pioneer of Judicial Activism in India.
Justice V. R. Krishna Iyer was a Judge and Minister who reformed the Indian criminal justice system. He stood up for the poor and the underprivileged, and remained a human rights champion.He is the man who laid the foundation for Public Interest Litigation and prison jurisprudence in the country. He was the first law minister in the ministry led by EMS Namboodiripad.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Kohikode District Probation Office and District Legal Services Authority jointly organised workshops for Advocates, Law students, Assistant Public Prosecutors and Police officers as a part of the probation fortnight observance 2022.The workshops for Advocates and Law students was conducted at the court conference hall on 25 November 2022. The programme was inaugurated by Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge Mr.S Krishna Kumar.Mr. S Krishna Kumar explained the importance of Preventive and reformative approach by the stakeholders of criminal justice system.He advised the participants be brave enough to assist the courts to unfold the truth and uphold the principles of justice. The inaugural session was presided by Hon’ble Sub Judge Mr. Shyjal. Hon’ble Chief judicial Magistrate Mrs Fathima Beevi was the chief guest.Deputy Director of Prosecution Mrs.Ishwari, District Social Justice Officer Mr.Ashraf Kavil,DistrictProbation Officer Mrs Vineetha Kumari PE, Bar Association President Mr MS Saji, APP Mr. Manojan,Mr Praveen and former GP Mr Jayakumar attended the inaugural function. Classes were conducted by Senior grade Assistant Public Prosecutor Ms.Sujaya Sudhakaran and Additional District Probation Officer Mr.Bibin Jose.
The second workshop was conducted jointly by the District Probation Office Kozhikode and the District Legal Services Authority at the Court conference hall on 28th November 2022.It was conducted for the Police officers in the district.
The program was inaugurated by the Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge Mr.S Krishna Kumar and presided by Hon’ble Sub judge Mr.Shyjal MP.Assistant superintendent of Police Mr Pradeep was the chief guest. District Social Justice Officer Mr Ashraf Kavil, District Probation Officer Mrs.Vineetha Kumari PE and Additional District Probation Officer Mr Bibin Jose attended the inaugural session. Kozhikode Government Law college principal Dr. N Krishna Kumar conducted classes on Probation of Offenders Act 1958.City Probation officer Muhammad Jabir explained the welfare schemes for victims, probationers, exconvicts and dependants, implemented through the district probation officers in the state.
