Libertus Tribus : National Seminar on Rights of the Scheduled Tribes and Demand for Development with Dignity : 2nd to 4th December 2024.

Organized by the Human Rights Chair, Government Law College, Kozhikode, in collaboration with KIRTADS , this seminar aims to foster meaningful dialogue and critical analysis of tribal rights, addressing socio-economic challenges, and advocating for inclusive development with dignity.

About the college

Government Law college, Kozhikode was established in the year 1970 to impart excellent education and knowledge in the field of law.Over the past 54 years, the college has bolstered its reputation of producing extraordinary lawyers, judges, academicians, CEOs,civil servants, and politicians. Our renowned alumni have been serving the nation as union cabinet ministers, judges, and advocates practising in various courts of India and have also made their mark in the private sector. The college has more than 900 students with a magnificent infrastructure and a resourceful library with several online databases.

The Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (KIRTADS),located in Kozhikode, is a government agency under The Department of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development, Kerala. Established with the mission to empower marginalized communities, KIRTADS engages in research,training, and development activities focused on the socio-economic upliftment of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other marginalized groups. KIRTADS plays a crucial role in documenting and preserving the cultural heritage of tribal communities in Kerala while actively promoting policies and programs that enhance their quality of life.

The seminar aims to critically examine the existing legal and constitutional framework for tribal rights in India, providing an in-depth understanding of the socio-economic, political, and cultural challenges faced by tribal communities in India, across the country. It seeks to create a platform for meaningful dialogue among students, academics, legal practitioners, tribal representatives, and policymakers, fostering an exchange of perspectives and experiences. Additionally, the seminar will highlight successful models and case studies in tribal development and rights advocacy, allowing participants to learn from effective approaches. Ultimately, the goal is to propose actionable recommendations to strengthen tribal rights and address gaps in their implementation, contributing to a more just and inclusive society.
