A Survey of Major Philosophical and Jurisprudential Theories of Justice from Plato to Amartya Sen
The upcoming online course Theories of Justice offers a comprehensive survey of major jurisprudential and philosophical theories of justice, ranging from Plato to Amartya Sen. The program is carefully designed for academicians, law teachers, postgraduate law students, PhD scholars, judges, and practicing lawyers, aiming to deepen their understanding of justice as a central theme in moral, political, and legal philosophy..
Through 15 sessions spread across Sundays and holidays, this course will guide participants through the foundations of classical theories, early modern perspectives, 19th and 20th-century jurists, and contemporary debates. By the end of the program, learners will be well-equipped to trace the historical evolution of justice, critically engage with major thinkers, and connect jurisprudential debates with wider constitutional and political frameworks.

About the Resource Person
The course will be led by Prof. R. K. Biju, Associate Professor of Law (Retd.), Govt. Law College, Kozhikode, and former Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Calicut. With over two decades of teaching experience, he has guided generations of law students in their academic and professional journeys.
Prof. Biju is not only a distinguished academic but also a seasoned practitioner, having been enrolled as an advocate since 1993 and practiced law for a decade. His academic leadership includes serving as Chairman of the Board of Studies in law at Calicut and Kannur Universities, as well as being a member of academic councils at Calicut University and CUSAT. He has also delivered lectures at reputed institutions such as IIM Calicut, NIT Calicut, and the Institute of Management in Government (IMG).
Prof. Biju has previously handled online courses on the Law of Evidence (with BSA 2023 updates), which were well-received by practising lawyers and law students alike. The courses included comprehensive training sessions, case law analysis, courtroom strategies, and were inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice M. B. Snehalatha, Judge, High Court of Kerala.
