The Moot Court Society of Mar Gregorios College of Law, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), has announced the 1st National Memorial Drafting Competition 2026, a virtual national-level competition aimed at enhancing legal research, written advocacy, and memorial drafting skills among law students. The competition provides participants with an opportunity to prepare memorials based on a contemporary moot proposition while developing professional drafting and analytical skills.
About the Institution:
Established in 2012, Mar Gregorios College of Law, Thiruvananthapuram, is affiliated with the University of Kerala and approved by the Bar Council of India. The institution is Kerala’s first NAAC-accredited law college and offers integrated undergraduate law programmes along with LL.M. programmes in Constitutional Law and Maritime Law.

The Moot Court Society of Mar Gregorios College of Law is committed to promoting advocacy, legal research, trial advocacy, ADR, and mooting culture through competitions, workshops, and training sessions. The Society has successfully hosted prestigious events, including the Commonwealth Legal Education Association Mooting Competition (South Asian Rounds), and continues to encourage students to participate in national and international moot court competitions.
About the Competition:
The competition seeks to provide law students with practical exposure to memorial drafting by simulating professional litigation standards. Participants are required to prepare memorials for both the Petitioner and Respondent based on the moot proposition provided by the organisers. Memorials will be evaluated on legal research, drafting quality, analytical reasoning, citation, and presentation.
Eligibility:
The competition is open to students currently pursuing:
- Three-Year LL.B. programmes
- Five-Year Integrated Law Programmes
- LL.M. programmes
Participation is permitted either individually or in teams of up to two members. Cross-institutional teams are also allowed.
Memorial Submission Guidelines:
- Memorials for both Petitioner and Respondent must be submitted in PDF and DOCX formats.
- Submission Deadline: 10 September 2026 (11:59 PM IST).
- Memorials must follow the prescribed formatting requirements.
- Citation style: Harvard Bluebook (21st Edition).
- Memorials should be anonymous and must not reveal participant or institutional identity.
- Use of AI is strictly prohibited, and plagiarism up to 20% is permitted.
Registration Fee:
- Individual Participant: ₹600
- Team (Two Participants): ₹800
Awards:
- Winner: ₹5,000 and Certificate of Merit
- Runner-Up: ₹3,000 and Certificate of Merit
- Second Runner-Up: ₹2,000 and Certificate of Merit
All participants will receive an e-certificate of participation.
