The Moot Court Committee, Department of Law, University of Jammu, and the Moot Court Association, School of Excellence in Law (SOEL), The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, are organising the Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition: North & South Rounds 2026-27.

About the Competition

The competition is designed to promote trial advocacy skills and deepen participants’ understanding of Criminal Law Jurisprudence, in accordance with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023. It offers a realistic simulation of criminal trial proceedings, allowing participants to argue as both Prosecution and Defence, examine witnesses, and hone courtroom advocacy.

Eligibility

Students currently pursuing their 3-Year LL.B. or 5-Year LL.B. program are eligible to participate. One team per institute.

Team Composition

  • Each team must have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 4 members (2 speakers + 2 researchers).
  • Teams may designate fixed Prosecution and Defence speaker pairs, but combinations cannot be rearranged once notified to the court assistants.

Format

Phase I – Procedural Test (conducted virtually if registrations exceed 18 teams): 25 objective & descriptive questions, 50 marks, 30 minutes, with negative marking. Only the Top 18 teams advance.

Phase II – Oral Rounds: Two Preliminary Rounds (Prosecution & Defence), followed by Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, and the Final.

Registration Fee

  • Base Registration Fee: Rs. 2,006 (incl. GST)- payable by August 25, 2026
  • Oral Rounds Fee (for qualifying 18 teams): additional Rs. 2,006 – payable by September 6, 2026
  • Accommodation: Rs. 1,416 per participant, per night (optional, individual basis)
