The MUN (Model United Nations) Club of Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram is hosting the 2nd Edition of the GLCT MUN – GLCT MUN’23, from 9th November to 11th November 2023.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTION:

Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram, the oldest law college in the state, established in 1875 and turning 150 years old this year, is an institution blessed to have its exemplary alumni leave a mark on a global scale in various domains. Being one of the most sought-after institutions in the contemporary landscape of legal education, GLCT is held in high regard due to its commendable achievements in both national and international seminars, symposiums, and a diverse array of workshops conducted throughout the year.

THE GLCT MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN) CLUB:

It is a transformative club established in GLCT in the year 2022, dedicated to enabling students to step into the shoes of world leaders, grapple with complex issues, and to work towards resolutions that have the power to shape our shared future by honing their diplomacy, critical thinking and public speaking skills. The club emphasizes students perusing the problems of the globe as our problems and pursuing the art of agreeing to disagree. It endeavours to help them cultivate meaningful connections and a profound understanding of the intricacies of the world. It has attained significant accomplishments, securing six best delegations in just four months surpassing the previous records in the Kerala Circuit, showcasing the exceptional growth of the club within its inaugural year.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

The GLCT MUN’23 scheduled from 9th November to 11 November 2023, shall be inaugurated on 9th November 2023.

The inaugural ceremony shall commence with a warm welcome from Rizmi Lia, Deputy Secretary-General, GLCT MUN’23. The presidential address will be delivered by the Principal In-Charge, Dr. Meenakumary. Shri. Biji George, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Trivandrum as well as Member, UN Peacekeeping Force at Kosava, with his esteemed presence will deliver the inaugural address and enlighten the students with his brilliance and wisdom. Dr. N. Jayakumar, Former Vice Chancellor, NUALS who served as Chairman of the Law Reforms Commission, would be delivering the Keynote address followed by the felicitation designated to Dr. Krishna Kumar M, Associate Professor, GLCT. The Vote of Thanks shall be delivered by Viji S, Joint Coordinator.

This year’s GLCT MUN consists of 4 committees:

  • United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
  • United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)
  • United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)
  • All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM)

It comes with an attractive prize pool worth 60K.

The valedictory ceremony to be held on 11th November 2023, shall commence with a welcoming speech by Dr. Sanju V.K., Joint Coordinator, followed by the presidential address by the Principal In-Charge, Dr. Meenakumary. The ceremony shall be graced with the esteemed presence of T P Sreenivasan, Former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, who will deliver the valedictory address. The keynote address shall be delivered by Dr. John S. Moolakkattu, Former Senior Professor and Dean, Central University of Kerala. The felicitation shall be done by Adv. G Muraleedharan, PTA Vice President. Last but not the least, the Vote of Thanks will be conveyed by M. Vaibhav Nath, Secretary-General, GLCT MUN’23.
