Students from Government Law College, Thrissur clinch the Trophy
As part of the Lok Ayukta Day Celebrations held on 15th November 2023, Kerala Lok Ayukta at the Kerala Legislative Assembly organized an All Kerala Inter Collegiate Debate Competition in which Ms. Abitha P Sunil and Mr. Manuel Dominic, final year students from Government Law College, Thrissur emerged victorious and was adjudged the winners of the event. Hon’ble Justice Mrs. B V Nagarathna, Judge of the Supreme Court of India graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the public function also handed over the trophy and cash prize to the winners. Out of the 16 teams that participated from across the State, the students came together to share their arguments on the theme: Whether the Kerala Lok Ayukta Amendment Bill, 2022 passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly on 30.08.2022 will strengthen the institution of Kerala Lok Ayukta?
The Lok Ayukta Day celebrations witnessed the coming together of various Judges, Lawyers, law students and the general public. Adv. Babu P Pothencode, Secretary, Lok Ayukta Advocates Forum welcomed the gathering, and the event was presided over by the Lok Ayukta Hon’ble Mr. Justice Cyriac Joseph. Upa Lok Ayuthas Hon’ble Mr. Justice Babu Mathew P. Joseph and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Harun-Ul-Rashid were also present for the celebrations. Dr. Alexander Jacob IPS, former DGP of Kerala, was the Guest of Honour. Felicitation addresses were presented by Adv. T A Shaji, Director General of Prosecution & Special Attorney, Lok Ayukta, Adv. Anayara Shaji, President, Trivandrum Bar Association and Adv. N S Lal, President, Lok Ayukta Advocates Forum. Sri. Siju Sheik, Registrar & District Judge delivered the vote of thanks on the occasion.
Recounting the auspicious event, the winners said, “For us, it was a great honour to represent Govt Law College Thrissur in the inter collegiate debate competition held at the Kerala Legislative Assembly. We had 16 teams from various law colleges of Kerala and debating on a sensational topic ‘Kerala Lok Ayukta Amendment Act 2022- Whether it strengthens or weakens Lok Ayukta’ was a great pleasure. We were immensely proud to receive the Lok Ayukta Trophy 2023 from Justice Nagarathna Madam, Judge Supreme Court of India. Overall, it gave us immense moments which will last in our memory forever…”.
