Report on Seven Day Special Camp 2023-24 National Service Scheme , Government Law College , Thiruvananthapuram

National Service Scheme Government Law College Trivandrum unit’s seven day annual special camp was conducted at Sai Gramam from 11th to 17th of March, 2024. The camp “Samatva” conducted with the message of equality. The volunteers had actively participated in the academic sessions and legal survey conducted in ward 7 and 16 of Muthakkal Grama Panchayath in association with District Legal Services Authority, Thiruvananthapuram and the project launched by Sai Gramam to make the village litigation free, Samatva seven-day camp engaged in Legal Aid survey.

FIRST DAY 11th MARCH 2024

INAUGURATION CEREMONY NSS.

special camp 2024 “Samatva” started on 11th day of March 2024 at Sai Gramam, Muthakkal gram panchayat. The volunteers reached the college campus by 3:00 P.M. and the camp destination Sai Gramam by 4:00 P.M. The inaugural ceremony started at 6:00 P.M.The inaugural ceremony begins with the welcome address by Sri Safi Mohan, Program Officer and the meeting was presided over by Muthakkal gram panchayat vice president Smt. Sreeja. The inauguration was done by Smt. Indira Raveendran, Women’s Commission member and Dr. Shaji, Kerala University NSS program coordinator delivered the key note address. The meeting had the special presence of Sri. K.N. Anandhkumar, Director Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage trust and Jus. A LakshmiKutty, Chairman of Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage trust as chief guests. Felicitation was delivered by Saleena U, assistant professor of Government Law College Trivandrum. The session ended with the vote of thanks by camp secretary Bharat Nair. The meeting dispersed for dinner at 8:00 P.M.After the screening of documentary about Sai Gramam following the formal
meeting functions.
ICE BREAKING SESSION
The volunteers gathered for the ice breaking session at 9:00 P.M. after the dinner.
The session was led by Sri. Vasanth Kumar, mind trainer, where the participants
engaged in simple tasks and activities made a part of the camp. The volunteers
were divided into 6 groups after the session. After the camp briefing, day 1 ended at 11: 30 P.M.

SECOND DAY 12th MARCH 2024

12th day of March 2024, the second day of the camp started with the breakfast for the volunteers who are observing Ramadan fasting at 4:00 a.m. All the other volunteers assembled at the Assembly Hall for the morning assembly after having breakfast at 9:00 a.m. After that the program officer and the volunteer secretary explained about the legal survey for that particular day. Soon after that the volunteers were divided into 36 teams and were given files consisting of 20 survey forms, A4 size papers (for writing complaints) and the pen for conducting the survey. They were assigned 2 wards each namely; Oorupoyka (ward no.16) and Vaalakadu (ward no. 7) for the survey. After the survey, the teams reached the college by 1:00 p.m. The survey is a joint effort of the District Legal Service Auhority and Sai Gramam to declare Mudhakkal as a litigation free panchayat.

INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH PRASHANT NAIR IAS

After the survey the NSS volunteers actively participated in an interactive session arranged for the students at Sai Gramam which was led by Law College alumni and Special Director of SC/ST/OBC Development Department Prashant Nair IAS. The volunteers ensured active involvement in the session. After the session, the team had lunch and got ready for the next session.

CONSTITUTIONAL LITERACY CLASS BY MOHAN GOPAL SIR

After having lunch, the volunteers assembled in the auditorium for the session on constitutional literacy. The named “Society and Constitutional Law” was perfectly communicated with the volunteers by the former director of National Judicial Academy professor Mohan Gopal sir. It was an interactive and informative academic session. The session also included topics the raised concerns regarding India’s current socio-political scenario.

CULTURALS

Exactly at 8:30 p.m., the volunteers assembled in the Auditorium to attend the culturals, which is the essence of the camp. It was organised by one of the teams. the night was filled with exciting games and entertaining performances. The volunteers ensured their complete participation and made it an interesting session. The second day of the camp ended with the camp review and the examination of the camp by the program officer and the volunteer secretary. The 3rd day of the camp ended by 10:30 p.m. and the senior volunteers completed the decoding for day 2.

THIRD DAY 13th MARCH 2024

Third day of the camp started with the distribution of breakfast to the volunteers having Ramadan fast at 4:00 a.m. All the other volunteers had breakfast at 7:15 a.m. The team assembled in the Auditorium for the Assembly session at 8:00 a.m. After the session, the program officer Safi Mohan Sir and volunteer secretary Sreelakshmi Sivakumar addresses the team. Soon after that, the volunteers were divided into 33 teams and sent for the survey to Oorupoyka and Vaalakodu. Rest of the volunteers did the decoding of Survey forms and helped in the arrangement. Those who were send for the survey came back by 12:30 p.m. and had lunch by 1:30 p.m.

SESSION ON WOMEN AND LAW

By 4:00 p.m. a session on “Women and Law” was organised by the program committee. It was led by the State Women Helpline Team member Adv. Sabitha M. The session was both interactive and informative. It ended by 6:00 p.m.

CONSTITUTION LITERACY CLASS

One of the major aims of the camp is to impart legal literacy in the village where camp takes place. From 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., a constitutional literacy class was organised for the students of Ambedkar Higher Secondary School. The class was taken by camp secretary Bharath Nair.

CULTURALS

The team had dinner by 8:30 p.m. and culturals began by that time. After that the third day of the camp was reviewed and advice and suggestions were noted. Hence ended the third day of “Samatva” seven-day camp.

FOURTH DAY 14TH MARCH 2024

4th day of the camp started with distribution of breakfast to those volunteers having Ramadan fast at 4:00 a.m. After that, a workout session was arranged for the volunteers which was led by NSS volunteer and National level netball player and coach Kavya P Hari. The volunteers then had breakfast by 9 a.m.

SESSION ON GENDER SEXUALITY

By 10:30 a.m., an academic session on gender sexuality was taken by gender sexuality expert and founder of VVox, Sangeeth Sebastian. It was truly informative and interactive.

DRAMA WORKSHOP

After having lunch, exactly at 4: 30 p.m., a drama workshop was organized for the volunteers and it was taken by famous drama artist Balu Vimal.The workshop enabled volunteers to explore various phases of acting in dramas and was an enriching session. During the workshop, the camp was visited by the Principal of Government Law College Trivandrum, Bindu Mol VC, teachers, Union members and other students.

CULTURALS

After dinner, by 9 p.m., culturals began with interesting games and performances by the culturals committee. Hence the 4th day of the camp ended after the camp review at 10: 30 p.m.

FIFTH DAY 15TH MARCH 2024

Like the previous days, the fifth day of the camp started with the distribution of breakfast to the volunteers having Ramadan fast. Then the work out session was done at 6:45 p.m. Soon after that the volunteers had breakfast at 10:00 a.m. and had the morning assembly at 8:15 a.m. By 9:30 a.m., the volunteers were sent for the daily survey. And by 12:00 p.m. the team came back after the same.

AN INTERACTIVE SESSION BY BRAHMANAYAKAM SIR

After having lunch, by 2: 30 p.m., an interactive and entertaining session was led by NSS Master Trainer and motivational speaker Bhrahmanayakam Mahadevan sir. This enriching session helped the volunteers to know more about each other and become more friendly.

CULTURALS

After dinner by 9 p.m., Culturals began with exciting games and performances. The 5th day of the camp thus ended with the camp review by 10: 30 p.m.

SIXTH DAY 16TH MARCH 2024

The 6th day like the previous days, began with the distribution of breakfast to those volunteers who are having Ramadan fast. After that the workout session was taken by Kavya P Hari at 7 a.m. After having breakfast, at 9 p.m., all the volunteers assembled for the morning assembly in the auditorium.

TOUR IN SAI GRAMAM

By 11 p.m., the volunteers were taken for a short round tour through Sai Gramam covering places like the art gallery, sacred snake grove, hi – tech farm etc. That was an enriching experience for all.

BEACH CLEANING AND CAMP FIRE

After having lunch, by 4:30 p.m., all the volunteers reached Perumathura beach for beach cleaning. After that with the support of the local community, a camp fire was arranged. The destination was visited by the teachers of Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram which made it more memorable. It was also filled with the presence of former NSS volunteer secretaries.

The night was filled with various games and cultural performances along with volunteers sharing their 6-day camp experiences. Thus the 6th day of the camp ended after reaching Sai Gramam at 11: 45 p.m.

SEVENTH DAY 17TH MARCH 2024

17/3/2024, the last day of the camp began with the distribution of breakfast to the volunteers who were having Ramadan fast at 4 a.m. After cleaning the premises of the camp, the volunteers had breakfast by 8:15 a.m. They assembled in the auditorium for the morning assembly at 9 a.m.

PROJECT LAUNCH AND CAMP ENDING CEREMONY

By 11 p.m., the 7th day of the camp was made more fruitful by the launch of ‘Students Para Legal Volunteer in Legal Aid Clinic’ Project. The first 10 para legal volunteers under this project were selected from Government Law College Thiruvananthapuram. The Programme began with recitation of the NSS song. The Inauguration speech was delivered by the volunteer secretary Sreelakshmi Sivakumar and the ceremony was presided over by NSS program officer Sri. Safi Mohan. The keynote address was delivered by Sri. S Shamnad. After that the volunteers had a chance to have an interactive question-answer session with Sri. S Shamnad. The ceremony ended with the vote of thanks by the volunteer secretary Priya George. The valedictory function was also noted for its announcement of the best volunteer as Hamda and the best of the camp led by team leader Amelia.The meeting was dispersed off with the recitation of the National Anthem and the volunteers left the camp site after having lunch at 12: 30 p.m.
