The Workshop conducted by the Department of Social Justice to streamline the activities and plans of the Department aiming the betterment of people with disabilities, elderly people, transgender people and other socially marginalized sections of society was inaugurated by the honorable Higher Education and Social Justice Minister Dr. R. Bindhu on 26th April. It is very important to make sure that the rights of people with disabilities, the elderly, transgender people and other marginalized groups are protected at all levels of society. – Higher Education and Social Justice Minister Dr.R. Bindu said.
The Department of Social Justice is paying special attention for the wellbeing of such people, the minister said and thereby clearly stated the vision of Social Justice Department through her speech. The Minister was inaugurating the workshop organized by the Department of Social Justice at IMG, Thiruvananthapuram to prepare the project outline for the next 5 years.
Institutions like NISH and NIPMER, which are functioning under the supervision of the department in the field of Disability Rehabilitation are working with high grade facilities and latest technology. The declared goal of the Government is to transform the State of Kerala into one of the finest example in the field for welfare of the people with disability.
We are proud, to be the best example for all others in the country as our State truly care for and act for the wellbeing of disabled people. – said the minister on 26th April during her speech in the workshop. Even though there is a need to make changes in the typical viewpoint of our society and the perspective of the society towards disabled people.
It is high time that we should act accordingly after understanding the need of the new age by utilizing new technologies to make these people self-sufficient and self-respecting and need to bring them into the mainstream of society.
This workshop aims to set an outline for the activities and schemes of the Department of Social Justice to provide better services to the elderly, persons with disabilities, transgender, probationers, victims of crime and other vulnerable groups. The workshop will help to figure out different ways to the work of making these people self-sufficient and for bringing them into the mainstream by utilizing the latest technologies. The ideas and suggestions emerging from the workshop will be codified and a comprehensive plan document to be implemented over the next 5 years will be prepared.
