The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL) was established by an Act of the State Legislature, inspired by the vision of India’s constitutional forefathers. They recognized that law, legal systems, and legal institutions play a pivotal role in shaping the human, social, political, and economic development of the nation. Law, as a social process with a profound influence on societal dynamics, serves as the backbone for the healthy growth of democracy and the rule of law.
About The Competition
The Competition is scheduled in a hybrid format and will consist of virtual rounds on October 26, 2024, followed by on-campus rounds at NUSRL Ranchi on November 15-16, 2024. This competition aims to foster a deep understanding of criminal law through critical legal analysis and argumentation.
All students pursuing their 3 years/ 5 years undergraduate LL.B. degree course from any bona fide college/institute/university across the country are eligible to participate in the said competition. There is no cap on the number of teams participating from a single institution.The competition also offers substantial rewards, including a prize pool of Rs. 50,000 and additional benefits up to Rs. 1,00,000, along with awards for the best memorials and best advocates. It is an ideal opportunity for aspiring lawyers to test their abilities and gain recognition for their legal talents.
Aim and Purpose
The Surana & Surana and NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition has been conceived with the aim to-i Create awareness on Criminal Law in a systematic / scientific manner and train participants for effective practice.ii Facilitate the evolution of Criminal Law through the jurisprudential analysis of theexisting law and consequential emergence of new laws besides developing cutting edge skills in research, writing and advocacy.
Venue and Date
The 1st Surana & Surana and NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition shall be held from October 26th (Virtually) and November 15th & 16th,2024 On Campus.

● Last date for seeking Clarification to the case: 16th October, 2024
● Release of Clarifications: 18th October, 2024
● Last Date for Submission of Memorials: 20th October, 2024
● Orientation, Draw of Lots, Exchange of Memorial: 24th October 2024
● Preliminary Rounds I & II: 26th October, 2024
● Last Date for submission of Travel Plans: 30th October, 2024
● Octa finals / Quarterfinals: 15th November 2024 (On-campus Ranchi)
● Semifinals, Finals, Valedictory & Prize Distribution: 16th November, 2024
Language
The competition shall be in the English language.
Eligibility
The competition is open for students who are pursuing LLB three year / five-year course during the current academic year.
Team Composition
a. Each team should consist of a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances.
b. There shall be 2 speakers and 1 researcher designated for each team. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with prior permission of the court and National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.
c. Each team will be provided a team code prior to the submission of memorials via e-mail. This team code is only for the memorials. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution in their memorials; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.
Awards and Prizes
● Winning Team: INR 21,000
● Runner up Team: INR 11,000
● Best Memorial: INR 6,000
● Second Best Memorial: INR 4.000
● Best Student Advocate: INR 5,000
● Second Best Student Advocate: INR 3,000
● Three (3) one-year complimentary subscriptions to SCC Online Web Edition to be distributed to the winning team worth Rs. 24,000 each. Total value of Rs. 72,000.
● All winners in all categories would be preferred for internship slots in the Surana & Surana International Attorneys office based on the team and location preference.
● One month of SCC Online Web Edition access to all participants valued at Rs. 1099 each.
Registration and Payment Details
● Online registrations are open from 20th September 2024. The teams must register online by 15th October 2024. Teams will have to register online at the link provided below: https://moot.in/registration.php
● No temporary registration requests will be entertained. Kindly refrain from sending such requests to Surana & Surana or NUSRL, Ranchi.
● Participants will receive an automated system-generated acknowledgment on successful submission of registration.
● Participants will receive an approval as acceptance of their request for participation by 17th October 2024 or earlier.
● A registration fee of Rs. 3,000/- is to be paid online by 15th October 2024 at NEFT:
